Since qualifying as a Grief Recovery Specialist in 2009, Grief Recovery Managing Director Carole Henderson has dreamed of having her own space to run workshops. Once she started training others to do this inspiring work the dream got bigger. It has taken 10 years and a lot of lessons learned in hotel venues but her dream has finally come true.
In February 2019 her first group of Grief Recovery Specialists graduated from the brand new training venue in Ellington Cambridgeshire. "Being close the A14 and A1 means we are very
Grief and Bereavement Training Room
accessible from all over the country and we are only an hour on the train from London St Pancras. However most importantly it means that we have been able to reduce the cost of our workshops as we are now spending ¬£thousands on hiring venues. A top priority was reduced noise interruption. It never ceased to amaze me how often we'd be subjected to all sorts of noise from neighbouring rooms which is never ideal but is particularly difficult for us due to the nature of our work. I think the most memorable example being a Gospel Church being held in the meeting
room across the hall complete with musical instruments. The music would have been great had I not been trying to teach over it!" Comfortable chairs were another key ingredient, along with really good tea & coffee. "The last thing you want on a 4 day course is a sore back 2 hours in!" Air conditioning is being installed in April as while the huge windows make the room wonderfully light and bright, it also has the potential to be very warm. Carole reflected "We didn't have time to get the aircon fitted before our first group but I hadn't been worried about that. After all this is the UK - we're not going to need it in February are we! I had to eat those words as we had the warmest February on record and everyone in our first group went outside in t shirts in the sunshine to enjoy their lunch."
We will still run some trainings at other venues around the country for those who can't get to Cambridgeshire for whatever reason, though from now on most will be here. For current dates and availability please click here.
