Julia Pitkin
At 26 years old my son and I were separated when, without a word, my estranged husband decided to return to his native country and take our son with him. Although he was returned safely to me the searching and longing was horrendous. It was too painful for anyone to talk about, so I buried my experiences and my feelings, then a series of subsequent losses hit me hard and I wondered why I couldn’t seem to cope with life very well.
As a freelance occupational therapist I specialised in the loss experienced by a person and their family after a diagnosis of dementia. I explored further and became a Grief Recovery Specialist. When I did this training I did not anticipate how much it would help me come to terms with and to complete the losses of my past. I now deliver Grief Recovery programmes; helping others in my community to rebuild their lives.
At Grief Recovery (UK) we recognise that grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss whether that loss has been brought about by a death, the end of a relationship, loss of health or job. We experience many losses throughout our lives and ‘pull ourselves together’ until a final loss seems to totally overwhelm us - this is when we need help and support.
I have worked alongside many clients with success and believe the programme will always remain a resource to the person who completes it. If you are local to Shropshire or North Herefordshire and you feel you need grief support please contact me.

How we're different to Cruse

Grief Recovery Blog

  • The ONLY Evidence Based Grief & Bereavement Programme in the World
  • International Pride Month and Grief - what do they have in common?
Given that homosexuality is still illegal in 73 countries and many other countries are still debating the status of couples’ rights in terms of marriage, taxation, adoption and end-of-life care, it’s no wonder that many families are then faced with a number of challenging losses. Many couples essentially lose the privileges that are taken for granted by heterosexual couples, understandably resulting in anger, sadness and frustration.
  • Father's Day for Grievers
For those who are having a hard time with Father's Day this year, remember you are entitled to feelings of sadness even if your dad is still alive and well - life is complicated, and with any change or challenge there is bound to be grief.
