For nearly 40 years the Grief Recovery Method has helped people all over the world move beyond bereavement, divorce and other losses. In Spring 2019 we reached a new milestone when the peer reviewed "American Journal of Health Education" (Volume 50 issue 2 to be precise" published research carried out by Dr Nolan and Dr Hallam of Kent University Ohio confirmed that the Grief Recovery Method made a measurable postivie impact on the grief journey of the participant.

If you commission interventions or programmes for people who have experienced any form of loss, no matter what the cause, then the combination of an evidence base and the structured format (meaning finite cost) makes the Grief Recovery Method the obvious choice. 
 
So what did the research find?

Firstly the size of the effect the Grief Recovery Method has on participants: 
 
Effect size is measured between 0 and 1 with 0 being equivalent to 0% and 1 being equivalent to 100% so a score of 1 would be the perfect score - that 100% of the participants were impacted by the programme. 0.8 (80%) or more is considered excellent. Between 0.5 and 0.79 is considered good. 
Most community based programme effect sizes range from 0.2 - 0.5 on average. 
On the variable of knowledge (pre test - post test) GRM scored an impressive 0.82  
On the variable of attitudes (pre test - post test) GRM scored an almost perfect 0.91 
On the variable of beliefs (pre test - post test) GRM scored a good 0.53 
On the variable of behaviours (pre test - post test) GRM scored very good 0.78 
 
After completion of the programme the most frequently reported coping behaviours that participants were less likely to engage in were: 
nicotine use 
misuse of prescription drugs 
illicit drug use 
overeating 
alcohol abuse 
gambling 
 
After completion of the programme the behaviours participants were more likely to engage in were: 
exercise 
sleeping 
shopping 
meditation 
prayer 
 
The GRM functions as a primary, secondary and tertiary prevention public health programme.
